Today, we get to meet a new character. Three, in fact, if you believe Harbor. If you don’t consider eggnog to be sentient, make that two. Either way, there’s a new face. Harbor is a loon (a diver if you’re in the UK).

Oh, he’s a LOON alright. Heh heh heh…
Heh, I see you follow me entirely!
My guess was right; he is a loon. Good job with the character design
A grumpy loon at that! Or is that just the belly talking?
Thanks!
And RE: the loon being grumpy or not – his speech has an embellishment, indicated by the “HMPHH!” and certain words being emphasized in purple. I’ll let everyone invent the actual sound in their heads.
I was going to say something along the lines of, “I don’t care if I call him something different – he sure sounds like a loon!”
Then I noticed everyone had beaten me to it.
So instead – is the ‘Kingsom’ in the first panel deliberate, or have I pointed out a typo?
Damn. That’s just a typo. And I’m usually so good about that, too!
Egg Nog. how random lol
Ha-AR-bor. I do know that voice.
Darn, beaten to the point-out-the-typo punch.
I wouldn’t have guessed loon, but then the only other “loon” with which I’m familiar is Shirley.
Darn, beaten to the point-out-the-typo punch… You too stuffgamer?
Well… loon would do but I prefer “loony”.
Oh wait that’s a type of bird sorry
Yep – a great big bird. And a noisy one, too. While hiking last spring, I heard/saw about seven of them on a lake. Impossible to miss them. And very pretty, too.
Of course, Harbor isn’t wearing his winter plumage, because it’s not nearly as striking.
My, that IS rather striking! Looks like silver or some kind of precious metal.
*nods* The main reason I kept him in his black-and-white style plumage (mating season) is that it’s more iconic of loons in general – you never see a plush or photo of a loon in winter plumage unless it’s highlighting the difference.
haha hey ian, do you know why he is/ seems grumpy? i know I sure don’t….maybe trouble with his wife..
He’s very snooty. Maybe he thinks very highly of himself. Or maybe he’s an egomaniac. And insane. The belly / eggnog bit seems to point that way.
Is Loon a Canadian?
Cause the ‘Loonies’ that we have up here and everything seem to have him on one of the sides.
Well, I’m in Maine, and Maine is very close to Canada. But this particular loon isn’t Canadian.
Wow, that was brilliantly random! You should do a FMAF where Flying Man and Mr.Stinky become paranormal investigators…
Glad you liked it, Leah!
I’m not sure what kind of paranormal activity they would uncover, given how strange their world already is.
Para-normality in FMAF would probably be…
Oh, crunch. You got me there.
I just can’t think of anything that would even strike our friends as out of the ordinary. At this rate, the strangest thing would be a normal day.
Colored words are new to this comic, right?
I’m heavily reminded of Animal Crossing. Due to the talking animals, catchphrases (Hmph!) and the occasional word emphasized. Coincidence?
Yep, colored words are a new thing. I’m using them here to indicate that Harbor places a certain kind of emphasis on different words – and he does it in a fancy way. I’ll let you imagine what that sounds like.
And any similarities to Animal Crossing are accidental – I haven’t played it very much.
He is a weird bird to have a verrrrrrrrrrrry large protruding posterior. Or is his belly some kind of unborn twin that loves eggnog?
Type fixed. And Harbor is just fat.
OH MY WORD!!!! I JUST SAW THIS!!! I AM WITHOUT WORDS.
I was wondering if you’d seen it yet.
I sometimes wish you update the comic at a fixed time, like at 12am CST or something.. then I may be the first to see the comic everytime
but I realize, that’d take a bit of programming work to do.. maybe (does Wordpress have something built in?)
Wordpress does, but I’m honestly too suspicious to trust it. Technically, if I upload a comic for a future date, it should hold it and post it when I tell it to. I’ll look into it some more.
Hey Ian, you’ve never explained how flying man and mr stinky rescue Mr Robinsen. Did he die?
See, that’s because he hasn’t been rescued yet. You’ll see what he’s currently up to in tomorrow’s strip.
[...] first met Harbor and his eggnog back in strip 71. He and Robinson have been a team ever since the latter’s daring [...]
[...] If you’re wondering what the deal is with Harbor, look no further than his first appearance. [...]
I imagine that Harbour sounds like Jeremy Clarkson…
